The author, Anthony Alofsin, is one of the most brilliant minds today, both in and out of architectural history. It goes without saying that the book follows suit.

This little book is an excellent review of Central American everything, from the time it emerged from the sea, to the current environmental and social problems affecting the region. The articles are written in almost a chronological order, by experts in their respective fields. The only think I would criticise is that it is too short for such a fascinating topic. Definitely worth the money.

This Famous Artist book by Antony Mason serves as an introduction to the life and work of Paul Cezanne. These books are organized in a particular way for each two-page spread: On the left page there is an illustration of the artist's home or environment and the story of the artist's life, along with a painting and a small symbol used to indicate the size of the paintings relative to a person. On the right page there are more paintings (usually with a key section enlarged) with text about the artist's work at the time, along with a feature on the artist's technique (e.g., painting with a palette knife, using watercolor, showing depth) with practical projects to try. I have read a couple of other books on Cezanne and Mason certainly provides a better understanding of how the artist is a major influence in Post-Impressionist art and is called the father of Modern Art.

Of the several books look at the life and art of Cezanne this particular volume probably has the best balance between the two. This book will certainly give you the basics and in the back you will find a brief history of art that puts the Impressionist movement in perspective and a list of museums and galleries at which you can see examples of Cezanne's work, although much of it is in the hands of private collectors. Other titles in the Famous Artists series look at Da Vinci, Michelangelo, Monet, Picasso and Van Gogh.

In 1989, Chicago began an experiment with radical decentralization of power and authority. This book tells the story of what happened to Chicago's elementary schools in the first four years of this reform. Implicit in this reform is the theory that expanded local democratic participation would stimulate organizational change within schools, which in turn would foster improved teaching and learning. Using this theory as a framework, the authors marshal massive quantitative and qualitative data to examine how the reform actually unfolded at the school level.With longitudinal case study data on 22 schools, survey responses from principals and teachers in 269 schools, and supplementary system-wide administrative data, the authors identify four types of school politics: strong democracy, consolidated principal power, maintenance, and adversarial. In addition, they classify school change efforts as either systemic or unfocused. Bringing these strands together, the authors determine that, in about a third of the schools, expanded local democratic participation served as a strong lever for introducing systemic change focused on improved instruction. Finally, case studies of six actively restructuring schools illustrate how under decentralization the principal's role is recast, social support for change can grow, and ideas and information from external sources are brought to bear on school change initiatives. Few studies intertwine so completely extensive narratives and rigorous quantitative analyses. The result is a complex picture of the Chicago reform that joins the politics of local control to school change.This volume is intended for scholars in the fields of urban education, public policy, sociology of education, anthropology of education, and politics of education. Fleischer is a South African who knows the people and places he describes. Adamastor is the god of storms: his "children" are fictional, but the world of their tempests, so accurately detailed yet so remote from our own, is entirely real. Real also is the utter humanity of his characters.

Ronald Satz provides readers with a colorful tapestry of information regarding the Chippewa Indians beginning with the first few encounters had with the whites. Chippewa Treaty Rights deals with the actual treaties signed by headmen from several tribes from northern Wisconsin and explains their meaning at the time to both the Native Americans and the white men. The actual treaties are found in the appendix of the book for further reference and add to the historical information already present in the text. The book does an excellent job of presenting historical facts in such a way even a person not familiar with the treaties could refer to the extensive appendices for further explanation. It is truly the type of book that draws out emotion and forces the reader to think critically about events that happened in the early 19th century on up to the 1980's. I thoroughly enjoyed this book and for anybody interested in Native American treaty rights especially those concerning the Ojibwa Indians this book is perfect. This book is a must have for any Wisconsin history enthusiast for it is about the birth of state.

I can't imagine why this book is out of print. The author challenges the notion that those plagued by mental illness or glitches of the mind must be "fixed." Instead, these struggles can be used for good.

This audiobook is gripping from the moment the reader begins his narration. the stories featured are haunting and full of psychological horror. The reader, Dermot Carrigan really comes alive with his reading and brings the characters to life for you so that you can fully realize them within your mind's eye. He not only simply reads the text but gives it life and animation. I highly recommend this audiobook; I for one will purchase all three volumes in the series, bravo Naxos and hats off to Mr. Carrigan.

This booklet is about 250 pages, divided in 29 clinical cases, dealing with different aspect of neurology: Systemic disease, demylinating, vascular, neuromuscular, degenerative, ataxia, neurooncology, CSF, seizures, movement disorders.
Each case range from 6-10 page length. Started with clinical history and examination, followed by lengthy informative discussion, to be ended with the final diagnosis. Each case is beefed with radiology, pathology, patients picture, EEG, in addition to occasional table.
I found the cases challenging and thought provoking and I learned a lot from them. No need to mention that each topic was covered by expert in that subspecialty.
